The Hortillonnages The Hortillonnages are 741 acres of gardens, formerly marshes fed by branches of the Somme River. The Romans were the first to drain the marshes and plant market garden produce. In the 19th Century there were still many market gardeners who sold their produce at the water market on the Quai Parmentier. Today, the market is still held every Saturday on the riverbank of the Place Parmentier. Tours of the area are offered from April to October. Address: 54 boulevard de Beauville Amiens France 80000
