The revolutionary Eurostar connects Lille with Brussels and Paris with Waterloo Tube station in London in just over two hours, journeys that used to take more than eight hours and required and often-bumpy ferry ride. Trains shoot underneath the English Channel via the Channel Tunnel, are capable of carrying approximately 750 passengers and reach a maximum speed of 300 km/h (186.4 mph). The trains run on simple electricity, and since the first trip in 1994 they have reduced the number of fossil-fuel-burning flights by 400,000. Eurostar trains reach several other destinations throughout specific seasons.
